The Line-Up: Tap into the World of Mélanie Masarin - the Founder of the Coolest Non-Alcoholic Apéritif, Ghia

Mélanie is more than just the Founder of the new widely acclaimed non-alcoholic beverage brand, Ghia; she is in many ways a breath of fresh air in a time that we all really need it. Let’s face it, quarantine has been hard. Very hard. Especially during the colder months. So we can all understand how we have all indulge ourselves more in our guilty pleasures to pass the time. Maybe it’s a lot of TV, video games, alcohol, pot, phone time, or online shopping. Luckily, there are brands that have been created or inspired by helping overcome those habits in a healthier way and Ghia is one of them.

A non-alcoholic apéritif inspired by the Mediterranean, Ghia’s products are made of botanical extracts to give you all the spirit without the hangover. Aside from being on POINT with its messaging and branding and tasting delicious, of course, Ghia has been a godsend for those who want the cocktail, sans the alcohol.

We sat down with the woman who has captured our taste buds and brand vibes to get to know where It all came from.

Where are you from?

Lyon, France.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I think because I'm very optimistic and love to share precious daily moments with others, people assume I’m “unusually happy”. But I’m also someone who worries too much and is extremely anxious and will lose sleep very easily over little things.

Favorite city to live in / favorite to visit?

I love living in LA but I love visiting France and Italy the most.

Favorite hotel(s) in the world?

I’m partial to a beautifully designed house over hotels but I do love hotels on the coast of Italy - Hotel Splendido in Portofino and Hotel Il Pelicano in Porto Ercole are two favorites I’ve been lucky to visit recently.

Last concert you saw?

A Tame Impala show at the Forum four days before the pandemic and the world as we knew it shut down!

If we hacked onto your Spotify, what would we be listening to?

I’m always very deep in a Ghia playlist - we probably spend way too much time on them but we have fun! Right now my heavy rotation is a very weird mix of Connan Mockasin, Khruanghbin, My Morning Jacket, Blur, Neil Frances, Chet Baker, Sampha and Tom Misch. P.S. Check out the Tidalist’s Playlist here!

Favorite restaurant(s)?

King in NYC, Felix and Gjusta in LA, Latteria in Milan - places that remind me of my grandmother’s kitchen.

Favorite essentials clothing brand(s):

45R for timeless pieces I cherish for years and the best cotton t-shirts.

A brand we should know?

Tigra Tigra or Gimaguas

Where do you go to get inspired?

This question has been getting me lately, because I used to always say “travel!” and now I have to find my inspiration from home. I find inspiration in the little daily things - the little habits that make us who we are without us even realizing it. Everything I do or create with Ghia is not about product, but about feelings. It’s meant to ignite conversations, safety, etc. So design and visuals are of course very important but a smell or a song can also be big sources of inspiration.

Favorite store?

There’s a little store in Paris called Xanadou that only sells tableware designed by architects and it’s my first stop every time I go home.

Any tattoos. If so, care to share of what?

No tats here!

Person you most look up to?

My late grandmother Mymo

Favorite watch?

I don’t really care for watches!
